Winona!

Winona You Rogers was born at 2:04 am on September 26th. She was 7lbs 4oz and 20.5 inches long. We are all so smitten by this little beauty.

It all started when my doctor wanted to induce me for having polyhydramnios (which i'm not convinced that I had). I was admitted into the hospital at 2pm on 9/25 to be induced. Winona was originally due on Oct 1st. They hooked me on the IV and gave me Pitocin, and then we wait... and wait. They checked me again and again and I just wasn't dilated enough. I guess even though I had 3 kids already, my body still has its own thought of when it wants to give birth. Oct 1st and not before lol
Close to 2 am on 9/26 my OB came in and told me that if I am still not dilated enough then she might have to consider C-session. I was scared and sad. However, when she checked me I was miraculously dilated to a 10 and was ready to push right away! After 3 good pushes, and she was out! They asked if I prefer holding her now or after they clean her up a little and I said "Now"! I cant wait to hold her!!

I tried to breastfeed her right away and she latched on and was a good sucker except that my milk wasn't in yet. After a good 20 to 30 minutes of cuddling, breastfeeding and admiring her beauty, the nurses took her to clean her up and weight her and gave her a apgar sore which I believed to be 9.

She came out red and white, however, soon she started to look jaundiced. She had to get heel poked to test her blood glucose which was very low. My milk took it's sweet time, all because my body wasn't ready to have this baby early, she was starved. I eventually gave up and let the nurses fed her a couple bottles of formula. She gulped a 30 ml formula bottle in one breath... must have been hungry!

The hospital had to take more of her blood glucose and my poor baby's heel was a bloody mess. I was so sad. Eventually the hospital decided to discharge us when my milk came in and she was breastfeeding fine.

On Oct 1st, we were readmitted into the hospital because the Jaundice blood test at our Pediatrician's office came back very high. The blood transfusion cut off was 25 and hers was 24.5. So we were advised to go to the hospital right away.  Once we checked in the hospital, instead of sending Winona to the NICU, they had NICU nurses to come put the IV in. It took them 3 tries. It broke my heart to watch that. My poor baby! They started her on photo therapy right away as we wait for the blood test. Blood test came back a little lower which was good. We continued photo therapy overnight. It was very nerve-racking to worry about her eye cover falling off her eyes and of course her jaundice level.

Little Winona, 5 days old and back in the hospital for jaundice phototherapy. She gave us a bit of a scare but her numbers are getting better. She rocks the eyewear.

Winona is a fighter. She fought jaundice and won. We went home on Oct 2nd. We still had to follow up at our Pediatrician's office for more blood tests but they all stayed low enough to not be a worry. Whew!
