We're enjoying my second post-exam break right now, and we took a trip for some classic Texas-sightseeing. As part of our trip, we went to the San Jacinto monument, which is where General Sam Houston won Texas's independence from Mexico in 1836, and this particular sight seems to be the origin of the "Texas forever" saying. I frequently like to say "Texas forever" because it makes me feel like Tim Riggins and I feel cool.

Enoch is catching on real fast to Texas pride with his we're number one sign. He was inspired by the monument and is now the Texas Forever poster child. |

It was crazy windy and Sharon took Michael out of his cacoon for a quick shot. |
The real highlight of our trip was Battleship Texas right across the street. It was awesome.

Behold me manning the guns |

This beauty will be 100 years old in 3 years. Not Sharon, but the ship. |

Big guns make men happy. |

Sweetness. Look at those guns. They're so big the don't even fit on the screen. |

You should see the size of the anchor. |
They even let you explore all around the decks below. It was pretty cool to see all the different rooms and functions that are required to keep a floating city housing 1800 sailors afloat, and cool to think this thing was built way back in 1914. It was so cool it almost makes me want to join the navy. Except then I'd be hitting my head all the time.
Seriously, though, those giant guns were awesome. Battleship Texas Forever.
