Surfside, Texas

This past week I had my first set of tests, and the great part about it was that they gave us Thursday and Friday off after we were done! I am really happy with school and like what I'm learning, but it's been really nice to not have to think about it for a bit. We went to the beach near Galveston, about an hour and 20 minutes away. I've heard bad things about Texas beaches, and we were pleasantly surprised. Enoch loved loved loved it.

That umbrella was actually really hard to find. We went to Target, Walmart, Lowes, and Home Depot and only had success when we saw a small surf shop by the beach.

At first he was pretty scared of the water. I like how focused he looks in this picture.

As soon as he saw me go swimming, however, he lost all fear of drowning and it was all we could do to keep him from running in to his death.

He loves it.

I built a tire swing

A couple of weeks ago, I put some new tires on our van. As I was waiting for the install, I wondered how hard it would be to build a tire swing out of the used tire. A quick google search, several trips to home depot, and some minor setbacks later and it was done! It isn't quite level, but I exceeded my expectations. My goal was to make the backyard fun enough that the kids can get hurt back there, and this probably meets the requirement.
